This project, began in school year
2001-2002, is designed to provide complementary recreational
and educational activities for the students after school.
The Kalihi YMCA A+ program enhances the formal DOE educational
program, and it provides structured activities for the children
until the early evening when parents end their workday.
The
Kalihi YMCA has many years of experience operating childrens
programs in the Farrington complex of schools and had already
gained experience at Alvah Scott and other schools by operating
the Before School, Holiday Fun and Intersession programs. |

Intersession Program -

Our Intersession programs provide child care for children
ages Kindergarten through 6th grade. Normally held during
school intersession breaks, these all-day comprehensive
programs are filled with various enrichment activities.
Besides indoor games, children participate in swimming,
field trips, arts & crafts, outdoor games, music &
dance, physical fitness, and cooking. Currently, Intersession
program sites are at Gus Webling Elementary, Moanalua Elementary,
Pearlridge Elementary and at the Kalihi YMCA. Program fees
vary. |

Summer
Fun -
Program
Objectives

Our Summer Fun program provides
a comprehensive, all day program for families who want an
enrichment for children in grades Kindergarten through 6th
grade. Everyday between 6:30 am and 5:30 pm children participate
in fun filled activities. Activities include camping, swim
lessons, weekly excursions, arts & crafts, outdoor games,
music and dance, creative drama, safety awareness, fitness,
and much much more. Program fees vary.

SORRY LEARN TO SWIM HAS TEMPORARLY DISCONITUED -
The
Kalihi YMCA in collaboration with the Kalihi Valley Recreation
Center Swimming Pool offer swim lessons for children in
Kindergarten through 6th grade. Normally held on Saturday
mornings, children learn basic swim skills and water safety.
Program fees vary.

Before
School Program -
Program

The
Kalihi YMCA offers early morning child care for parents
who take their children to school early in the morning.
Located at various elementary schools, the Before School
Program starts at 6:00 am everyday. The daily schedule includes
structured activities, breakfast, and being escorted to
class. Program fees vary according to the schools' calendar.

Scholarships
The Kalihi YMCA Board, and other volunteers, raise money
each year to support our scholarship fund. If you are interested
in filling out a scholarship application, please contact
our business office and one will be sent to you.
