JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: YMCA Junior Leader

GENERAL FUNCTION:

Serve as an assistance to the leader, helping to prepare supplies and equipment for activities; providing individual assistance to a child as directed; supervision routine tasks of children; chaperone children; interact with children through activities; follow rules and assist with group control.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Completion of 8 Grade to 11 `' Grade
• Interest in working with children/educational field
  

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Past volunteer experience
• Certification in First Aid/CPR
  

JOB SEGMENTS:

• Understand the YMCA mission and program goals.
• Be consistent in following program policies and procedures.
• Ensure the safety, health and welfare of children assigned as well as other children in the program.
• Relate to children with respect and understanding and realize that you are a role model for them.
• Be sensitive to each child's needs and provide guidance toward positive choices.
• Interact with staff, parents, school personnel and others associated with the program in a respectful manner.
• Be on time to work and meetings.
• Remain with assigned group throughout the program.
• Assist group leader in helping children be attentive when the leader is speaking.
• Assist group leader in moving children from one activity to another safely and quickly.
• Assist group leader in preparing area and supplies for activities; help in bringing out and returning equipment and supplies.
• Assist individual children in learning skills for an activity by demonstration and verbally instructing, encouraging and recognizing child's progress.
• Point out problems to leaders and assist in evaluating program, offer ideas for improvements.
• Lead activity or supervise a small group under the supervision of the group leader.
• Assume responsibility for all facilities, equipment and supplies of the program site.
